2022 SVS Cabernet Franc - Santa Cruz Mountains

The Single Vineyard Series is a set of wines that highlights the complexity of small, world-class vineyards, each of which allows the wine to show a distinctive personality. The wine club usually comprises three Cab Francs and three Cabernet Sauvignons

Relationships are often what drive the choice of vineyard and variety for The Steven Kent Winery. We want to work with passionate people who devote as much care and time to their vineyards as we do to our winemaking. Especially with the Santa Cruz Mountains, we are at the whim of Bacchus when it comes to the amount of fruit available to us at harvest. And the number of sources we have is limited by the quality of site and friendship we have built up over time with the farmers and owners of those vineyards.

Fruit Sources

In 2022, we anticipated getting enough fruit from Bates Ranch to make enough wine for this Single Vineyard Series Cab Franc, the season had other priorities. Lucky enough for us…and for you, we were able to get just enough fruit (just over ½ ton of Cab Franc) from Zayante Vineyard to add to 1 ton from Bates for this exceptional blend.

Vinification

The wine was fermented in open-top vessels, hand-punched for about 10 days then pressed off to older French-oak barrels for 18 months.

Tasting Notes

Marked by rich notes of black raspberry, blackberry, and bay leaf in the nose, this wine displays the abundant acidity, rich color, and full palate that defines Cab Franc from this region.  This is a wine that will pair beautifully with lamb, white meats, and stews of all types.  Drink from 2025 – 2035.
