AMERICA’S OLDEST FAMILY OF WINEMAKERS
From the preeminent producers of Cab Franc in the US comes this 50%/50% blend of Cab Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from the esteemed Casa de Viñas Vineyard in the center of the Livermore Valley.
Julio Covarrubias, the owner of Casa de Viñas Vineyard, is a legend in the Livermore Valley. He is one of the foremost experts in grape growing here, a trusted mentor, a lover of great wine, and a true friend. I’ve spent more than 15 years searching out the best sites from the Livermore Valley to get Cab Franc and Cabernet, sites that are distinctive, farmed with care, and provide the raw fruit from which the Steven Kent Winemaking team can make wines of beauty, elegance, and emotional strength. Casa de Viñas is one such site. Just over 20 acres, the vineyard is farmed with love and care, and in 2023 it provided Cab Franc and Cabernet that spoke to that passion for farming, the need to bring joy, and the bone-deep belief that a glass of gorgeous wine makes life a more beautiful and richer thing.
2023 will go down in Steven Kent annals as one of the truly fine vintages. If great wine comprises balance, energy, a sense of “aliveness,” and a sense that much grandeur hides, iceberg-like, under the surface then this blend of Cab Franc and Cabernet is a great wine.
Tasting Notes As is typical of the Steven Kent style, this stunning wine shows all the beauty and complexity that these two grapes are capable of. With the energy and electricity of Cab Franc supported by the tannic back-bone of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is immediately drinkable, especially with food…and will age beautifully over the next 7-10 years.
