AMERICA’S OLDEST FAMILY OF WINEMAKERS
2023 CABERNET SAUVIGNON — GHIELMETTI VINEYARD This wine is a blend of the finest barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from the esteemed Ghielmetti Vineyard in the eastern foothills of the Livermore Valley. This offering is part of our Single Vineyard Series wine club.
THE GHIELMETTI VINEYARD, a former estate site, was originally planted in 1999 in the windswept eastern foothills of Livermore Valley. Just over 3 acres of clone 30 Cabernet Sauvignon is laid out in a north-south orientation using Vertical Shoot Position (VSP) trellising. This clone has shown so well over the past 20 years that several other wineries planted parts of their vineyards to it.
CABERNET FROM THIS VINEYARD TENDS toward medium body and tannin while rewarding lovers of elegant and precise wines, an almost nonchalant elegance and age-worthiness. The barrels chosen for this wine were fermented at ambient cellar temperature in 1.7-ton boxes. This ebullient wine will evolve beautifully over the next 15-20 years.
The 2023 GROWING SEASON was cooler than 2022, somewhat similar to 2021 and 2025 with the net effect of producing wines that coupled mid-palate richness with great acid-driven length. 2023 produced an abundance of world-class fruit from this site.
The MIRASSOU FAMILY is the oldest family of winemakers in the US. Seven generations have been fortunate enough to have worked in the vineyards and cellars of California to produce wines that, even if in only a small way, change people’s lives.
