In rare cases will a person’s namesake perfectly predict her own special talents. Such is the case though, with Sara Murphy Mirassou, our 7^th generation Director of Hospitality. Named for 1920’s expat and patroness of the greatest writers and artists of her generation, Sara Wiborg Murphy, we knew very early that our Sara would gravitate toward work that allowed her the opportunity to take care of people, work that she now does every day at the Steven Kent Winery.

Fruit Sources

The Murphy is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blend of 2021 and 2022 vintages from the esteemed Lencioni Vineyard located at the western edge of the Livermore Valley.

Typically, we harvest fruit from a selection of world-class vineyards in the Livermore Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains for specific single-vineyard releases or specifically for appellation blends such as The Premier Cabernet Sauvignon. In fewer cases, our production team has wines available that work beautifully in blends that embody a concept or that contain wines that were treated in a similar winemaking fashion. The latter is the case with The Murphy.

Winemaker Notes

In the nose, The Murphy is dominated by aromas of dark and red berry and dusty, dried herbs; the very small amount of new-ish barrel plays an appropriately small role. In the mouth, flavors of dark fruit and dried sage mirror its aromas. Structurally, the wine enters with grace, displaying juicy acidity that carries through to a long finish. This wine has beautiful, round mouthfeel and moderate tannin and is best experienced in the next few years. This is a wine that would pair beautifully with white meats, chicken, and pasta dishes. Drink from 2025 – 2030.
